DUNCAN PRINT GROUP HAS achieved the British Retail Consortium standard for food packaging, allowing the Welwyn Garden City printer to offer its services to a wide range of food brands and retailers.

The company has invested in turning its six colour Speedmaster XL105, installed in June 2012, into a press running low migration inks and with minimal chemicals and having the systems in place to ensure that unauthorised materials are not mixed with the low migration consumables. SAI Global ran the audit to approve Duncan's bid for the Global Standard for pacakging and packaging Materials in the High Hygiene category.

CHIEF EXECUTIVE BILL DUNCAN SAYS: "Our move into the food market is a logical expansion of our packaging offering which currently accounts for over 50% of the company's turnover. Food packaging is a growth area, particularly in the branded, artisan, sector where we can demonstrate our creativity in packaging design as well as customer value."

To this end the company has participated in Packaging Innovations events, including the most recent show at the Business Design Centre this month. Much of the packaging it produces involves at least some element of inhouse design. The company also runs Xerox digital presses including an iGen3 which can be used for ultra low volume packaging.
